The Great Sandbagger 5 Miler

August 4, 2001, 7:00 am

Typical of the past month's weather, warm and humid conditions greeted thirteen hardy souls vying for the coveted "Great Sandbagger Trophy." The out-and-back five mile course consisted of a series of winding hills starting at Mill Creek Elementary School and progressing south along Sinclair Road. The overall winner, Case Shay, not only ran the fastest time of the day but also was the most accurate in his prediction. This day, however, belonged to the "sandbaggers", the greatest of whom, Ron Pickett, ran two minutes and twenty seconds faster than he predicted; a mere one second faster than Jim O'Dell's sandbagging effort.
